A common feature of youth culture in the world's large urban centres is the tendency to transcend "ethnic" barriers and to compose one's own identities from traditional elements of different cultures combined with contemporary pop-culture.
Examples of this is seen in different world music scenes and "ethnic" dance cultures that all have a strong identificational potential.
I have for a number of years been following the international "tribal dance" movement, a dance and music culture that combines elements of such varied character as traditional Indian dance and music, Oriental dance, Arab folklore, Flamenco, Celtic and Medieval sounds and has swept through the large cities of America and Europe.
My explorations have led to writing, an experimental dance performance broadcast live on the internet (Cyber Gypsy) and material for a documentary film.
